Staying Connected and Staying Sane with This Side UP! Family
Hello again, friends. It’s been a tough few weeks but growth doesn’t happen without some growing pains so we hope you have been learning and growing with us and teaching your family to love each other and your neighbors better.
Something to Do:
The DoSeum has a wonderful section of “Do It At Home” activities for kids and parents. They also have a Summer Challenge to help prevent the dreaded summer learning slide in math, science and reading AND have fun at home. It is available in English and Spanish and is broken up into age groups Pre-K through 2nd grade and 3rd through 5th grade.
Happy Hooligans has a wonderful list of activities to try at home with kids this summer. We especially like the rope and pulley idea and the backyard art party idea. It would be easy to keep it socially distanced too!
Something to Make:
Taking another cue from Happy Hooligans, we are planning to make paper plate self-portraits.

Since it’s heating up outside, now is also a perfect time to make frozen paint pops! All you need is water, popsicle molds or ice cube trays, and food coloring.
Just add the water and food coloring to your trays and freeze. The more food coloring you add, the more vibrant your paint will be.
Once your paint pops are frozen, take them outside and see what the kids come up with. You can use cardboard, watercolor paper, or poster board as a “canvas”
Something To Discuss:
Difficult topics and events are in the news now more than ever and you may be wondering how to talk about it with your kids. Momentous Institute has a wonderful episode on their podcast, The Growing Brain, with tips on how to start the conversation and give kids an opportunity to ask questions and express what they need to about what they’ve seen or heard.
Something to Give:
Today is the last day to order signs to recognize the special dad in your life. They are $15 each and include free delivery within 10 miles of Plano. Proceeds go to support the family strengthening programs of This Side UP Family.
It’s June which means it’s time for another At-Home Date Night! A $100 donation will provide all the materials necessary for an at-home date night kit with a dinner gift card, a talk time conversation card to encourage intentional connection, and an activity kit to keep the kids busy while parents have some quality time together. Visit bit.ly/TSUFdonate to make a contribution to this month’s date night!
If you are interested in receiving an At-Home Date Night Kit this month for you and your partner, email info@thissideupfamily.org by Friday, June 12th.
As always, feel free to reach out to us if you or your family are in need of any support or resources. Tag us @ThisSideUpFamily on Facebook or @ThisSideUpFamilyTX on Instagram if you try any of our ideas!
