Staying Connected and Staying Sane with This Side UP Family
Hello again! I don’t know about you but I cannot believe it’s already August. This summer has felt about 10 minutes and 1000 years long all at the same time. As we look forward with a lot of uncertainty toward the fall, I hope this newsletter helps you in some small way to connect with your family.
Something to Do:
We are hosting another At Home Date Night this month! The first 10 families to register will get a gift card for restaurant delivery and every family will get a talk time card and an age specific activity kit for the kids to keep busy while you and your partner are taking some well-deserved time to connect! Pre-Registration is FREE and required. Go here to sign up! Your packet will be emailed to you on August 15th.
We are also hosting our first VIRTUAL Family Connection Night on Saturday, August 22nd at 7:00 pm. It will be a fun trivia night for you to participate in as a family for a chance to win a BIG Family Fun Prize Valued at over $200! Space is limited so click here to register! We can’t wait to virtually connect with your family!
Something to Make/Discuss:
To prepare for the above mentioned Family Connection Night, it might be fun to create a family team flag!
What you will need:
Paper (construction or printer paper is fine)
Colored markers or crayons
Imagination
Directions:
Start by asking each family member their favorite color. Each color should be put on the flag in equal spaces. You can do horizontal or vertical stripes, a checkerboard pattern, rectangles, etc.
Next, think of the symbols that best represent your family. Does mom remind you of hearts or stars? Maybe brother likes to play outside, so his symbol is a tree or flower? Or, dad makes everyone laugh so his is a smiley face. Draw a special symbol for each family member anywhere on the flag.
Hang your flag on the wall for everyone to see.
Optional: You may also choose to draw one big symbol or shape that represents everyone in your family. Some flags have animals that symbolize something special. Is there an animal that can symbolize your family? Maybe your last name rhymes with an animal or has the same first letter? Carefully draw that animal on an empty space on your flag.
